Day 22 - Cannonville, Utah

Boy did it blow and rain in the night...I even mistook the sound for snow.... By the time we got up, surprisingly the skies cleared up. Joy!! Ross took a couple of photos showing the cliffs with snow across from our campsite.

We took Highway 12 which has incredible vistas. We came into Dixie National Forest, an area which must receive a lot of rain and snow since there was a poster reading .

At 7900 feet, there was a light dusting of snow and we stopped at a scenic overlook. That was the last time we could see anything, as we entered the clouds and it started to snow. We were up to 9500 feet with the temperature down to -0.1. Ross took it nice and easy. No rush to get there as the roads might be very slippery. And, we met a snowplow!!!

By the time we got to Boulder, the sun was trying hard to come out. We drove across the Escalante Natural Bridge where you actually drive on a ridge (no shoulders) with vistas on both sides. We thought this would be a great place to have our coffee and muffin.

We went thru the town of Escalante, stopped at the Visitor Center. Very nice exhibits on dinosaurs (they had an imprint of their skin tissue), microscopes showing soil organisms, all very interesting.

Drove through Henrieville and arrived in Cannonville at our campsite where we had lunch.

After lunch, we headed for Bryce Canyon National Park. As we entered the Park entrance gates, it started snowing. We thought we would drive to the end of the parkway, to Rainbow Point, which is approx. 18 miles. It kept on snowing so we didn't hope for much. But would you believe, after parking, getting our warmest jackets on (and hats, and gloves), the sun came out and there it was ... just incredible views .... We haven't seen anything like this yet. It is more than beautiful...the colours, the magnificence.

All 3 photos (see Blog addition for missing photo) were taken on our return trip, stopping at different viewpoints. We lost our sun, here and there and unfortunately, by the time we got back to Cannonville, and got supper underway, it started raining.

Tomorrow we will return to enjoy more of this wonderful park and hopefully do a trail which is highly recommended in the park brochure.
